UAE hosts New Zeland in 3-match T20 series
As each team is gearing up for the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, every board is facilitating match practice for its squad. Along similar lines, New Zealand is playing UAE in a bilateral series. On Thursday, August 17, the two teams squared off in the first T20I of the 3-match series. Batting first New Zealand made a par score of 155 runs. In reply, UAE was in the game for a bit but a spectacular effort from Mitchell Santner did not let the Middle East nation smell any possibilities of a win.
Mitchell Santner takes a stunner in 1st T20
After losing two quick wickets, UAE's Aryansh Sharma was firing on all cylinders and was supported by Asif Khan. The two were going at 9 in an over, and the partnership was threatening to take the game away from the Kiwis. A breakthrough was required and Mitchell Santner came to the fore to provide just that. He bowled a quicker one to Asif Khan in the 7th over, which pitched at the boundary of the short and good length zone. The ball hurried onto the batsman and went slightly uppish. It was bound to land safe but Santner flew to his right to get a scalp out of the ordinary. Here's the incredible take on the Blackcaps all-rounder.
Following the wicket, a collapse ensued, and as a result, New Zealand won the match by 19 runs. Tim Southee, who took a 5-fer was adjudged the man of the match. The second T20 between New Zealand and UAE will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
