Gautam Gambhir has appreciated MS Dhoni's decision of joining the Army and said that it is a historic step which will encourage the young generation.
Gambhir's salute to Dhoni
Speaking to a news channel, the BJP MP said that one shouldn't merely wear the uniform of defence personnel, rather they should do something for them, and only then wear it. He then, however, praised MSD by saying that the veteran cricketer has shown the entire country that he is indeed very serious about the uniform. Gambhir also said that the ex-skipper has taken a step which will motivate the youth and that it will also make him a huge role model.
MS Dhoni's passion for the Army
MS Dhoni will join para regiment on July 31 and will be a part of 106 Territorial Army Battalion (Para) till August 19, informed the Army on Thursday. In a major development, MS Dhoni had earlier announced that he would be unavailable for the upcoming Windies trip and would serve the Indian Army. Confirming his request, the Indian Army Headquarters on Thursday said that he will be stationed with the Victor Force in the Kashmir Valley and will be taking up patrolling, guard and post duty. They further informed that MS Dhoni who holds a Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) shall be staying with troops.
Dhoni has more than once expressed his desire to serve the Army. "Once my cricket career is over, I would definitely like to serve in the Army," he had said.
Mahi is a part of Indian territorial army's 106th Battalion (para). The World Cup 2011 winning skipper is a part of TA's 106th Infantry Battalion and was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2011. The veteran wicket-keeper batsman had also trained with the para regiment after he was given the honorary rank in 2011 in Agra and has completed five parachute jumps.
