New Zealand, on or hand, defeated Zimbabwe in quarter-finals, following a win over Pakistan in semi-finals. y topped it up with a win over India in finals. This was first and to date, only ICC event won by New Zealand. Roger Twose scored two fifties along way for Black Caps.

Indian openers gave a superb start to ir team and put a brilliant partnership of 141, ir middle order, however, could t take any vant of start given by ir openers and finished innings scoring 264 runs and losing 6 wickets in ir 50 overs. Ganguly's golden run in tournament continued as he yet again scored a brilliant century scoring 117 runs from 130 balls. New Zealand innings yet again did t start well as y lost ir two wickets inside 6 overs for score of 37, and later reduced to 132/5 but n, Chris Cairns and Chris Harris put a brilliant partnership of 122 runs, which helped m to win ir first major ICC trophy.
Ganguly finished series with 348 runs leing scoring charts while Pras took 8 wickets leing bowling charts.
