India will have a new coach for the upcoming tour of South Africa. Gautam Gambhir will not be in charge of the side that will go to South Africa for a limited-overs cricket. Gambhir would be in Australia for the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar trophy and hence VVS Laxman would be in charge of the side. This will not be the first time Laxman would be in charge of an Indian squad, he has filled in for Rahul Dravid in the past as well. The four-match series was not scheduled, in fact it was recently arranged between the BCCI and Cricket South Africa (CSA). The Indian team will play four Twenty20 Internationals in Durban, Gqeberha, Centurion and Johannesburg on November 8, 10, 13 and 15 respectively. The team that is picked for the SA tour will depart from India on November 4.
Laxman is expected to travel with his team from the National Cricket Academy which features Sairaj Bahutule, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh.
The T20I squad for the South Africa series was announced on October 25. Suryakumar Yadav would be leading the side. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sjarma have been picked as the wicketkeepers for the tour. This is an important series because it takes place just before the much-awaited Indian Premier League auction. There would be a few players who would like to make an impact and woo franchises ahead of the auction. The franchises would surely have their eyes on a few players.
