After winning the Asia Cup 2023, an unfamiliar member was called on the dais to lift the trophy. India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final.

On Sunday, Team India registered a convincing victory over Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup 2023. With the win the Men in Blue lifted their 8th Asia Cup title. And when it comes to lifting trophies the norm continues. The youngest member gets to be in the limelight and gets to be the first one to touch and give the trophy a go. Unfamiliar yet significant person lifts Asia Cup 2023 trophy

Following the 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka, the players congregated at the presentation ceremony and eventually, the time arrived when they all had to stand together to collect the trophy. Debutant Tilak Varma was given the premier space and was handed the trophy. The newest member getting the chance to lift the trophy has become a usual sight over the years, however, this time another member of the squad was also given the pass to lift the trophy. 

Raghu Raghavendra, who is a 'throw-down specialist' was brought into the limelight after the culmination of the match, and he got the opportunity to lift the trophy. His job is to give throw-downs to the Indian batters at the nets with a slinger. He is not the only one as India reportedly employed two other throwdown specialists.

"A lot of credit has to go to these guys, who have given us practice regularly and their contribution has been unbelievable. You guys should remember their names and faces because, behind our success, a lot of effort has been put in by these guys," Kohli had earlier said about the throw-down specialists.

India defeat Sri Lanka by an overbearing margin

A devastating opening spell by Mohd. Siraj left Sri Lanka in deep trouble. He bowled his career-best spell of 21 for 6, which played the central role behind Sri Lanka bundling out for just 50. In reply, openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan handled things perfectly, and as a result, India chased the score down after just 6.1 overs.
