Defending champions England will aim to double their 50-over World Cup trophy cabinet when they arrive in India for the ICC World Cup 2023. England is the defending champions of the tournament. They won the trophy in the previous edition by defeating New Zealand in the epic final whose result was decided on the boundary count.

England will play the tournament opener on October 5. The defending champion will clash with New Zealand in the match which is being seen as the replay of the previous final from the ODI World Cup edition.

Just like every other team, England will play a total of 9 matches during the league stage of ODI World Cup 2023. Hence, they will face each team once before the semi-final. England will play their last match of the league stage against Pakistan on November 11.

England's complete schedule for the upcoming World Cup

  • Thursday, October 5: England v New Zealand (Ahmedabad), 2 pm
  • Tuesday, October 10: England v Bangladesh (Dharamsala), 10:30 am
  • Sunday, October 15: England v Afghanistan (Delhi), 2 pm
  • Saturday, October 21: England v South Africa (Mumbai), 2 pm
  • Thursday, October 26: England v Sri Lanka (Bengaluru), 2 pm
  • Sunday, October 29: India v England (Lucknow), 2 pm
  • Saturday, November 4: England v Australia (Ahmedabad), 2 pm
  • Wednesday, November 8: England v Netherlands (Pune), 2 pm
  • Saturday, November 11: England v Pakistan (Kolkata), 2 pm

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will be the only venue where England will play twice in the league stage – against New Zealand on October 5, and against Australia on November 4. India will host them at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, on October 29.

England squad for ODI World Cup 2023

England's chief selector and former cricketer Luke Wright announced the preliminary squad for the upcoming edition of the World Cup on 16th September and made some shocked exclusions. England Test Captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes who had recently reversed his decision to retire from ODI cricket slotted into the group of 15 players selected for the tournament. on the other hand, Jason Roy and Jofra Archer were not included. Archer, however, is part of traveling reserves.
