This was India's second consecutive defeat in the WTC Final having been outclassed by New Zealand in the inaugural edition at Rose Bowl, Southampton.

Dinesh Karthik opens up on Ravichandran Ashwin's omission from the WTC final
There were severe debates on what should be India's bowling combination as Ravichandran Ashwin's name popped up in the discussion quite a few times. Ashwin was fresh from his 'Man of the Series' traits against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy on home soil and was the favourite to start alongside Ravindra Jadeja as the specialist spinner.

But given the overcast conditions at the time of the final, management decided to entrust Shardul Thakur with a wholesome opportunity which went on to backfire pretty badly. Dinesh Karthik who is busy commentating around the globe claimed India will be regretting Ashwin's ouster from the WTC final squad.

"Todd Murphy is coming in. We know the pitch is dry, Nathan. Lyon has done well at the Oval over a period of time. So the obvious change.
"But India left R Ashwin as well, didn't they? In the World Test championship final. And that possibly cost them because this pitch is dry. You are unearthing a cab wound there. I think we should let that go. But yes, I think they do when they look back at it. That is one of the biggest regrets they could have."

Will Ravichandran Ashwin make it to the World Cup squad?
Ashwin has been India's active leading wicket-takers in the long format and the Rajasthan Royals off-spinner might have a slender chance to make it to India's squad in the ICC Cricket World Cup. The spinner was a part of India's World Cup winning setup in 2011 and will hope to add another World Cup medal to his tally.
