The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been at the center of a storm of controversy and division, following recent high-profile changes in team leadership. This upheaval began after the PCB removed Babar Azam as captain and appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as T20 captain and Shan Masood as the Test captain, in response to a dismal performance at the previous Cricket World Cup in India.

However, the saga didn’t end there. The subsequent appointment of Babar Azam as T20 captain once again, under the newly restructured PCB led by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, has seemingly ignited internal strife within the team.

Danish Kaneria reveals explosive details of Pakistan cricket team's dressing room

In an exclusive interview with Republic Media Network, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has lifted the veil on the internal rift plaguing the Pakistan dressing room. Kaneria's revelations point to a toxic environment fostered by inconsistent leadership and an overemphasis on individual star power.

"The problem arises when you have too many captains in one dressing room," Kaneria explained. "It’s the system, namely the PCB, that is at fault here. When the system suggests that a player is indispensable or that the team cannot succeed without them, it plants the seed of entitlement and discontent. This mindset is destructive."

Danish Kaneria highlighted the emergence of three distinct factions within the team, each aligned with a key player: Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Babar Azam . According to Kaneria, these factions have created a fractured team dynamic.

“The current situation is untenable,” Kaneria asserted. “It’s crucial that the system, including the chairman, selection committee, and coach, take charge and enforce strict decisions. Each player should focus on domestic cricket and earn their place based on merit. We are prepared to give opportunities to younger players if necessary. If we lose with them, so be it, but it will send a message that nothing is guaranteed. Persisting with this behavior only tarnishes our country’s reputation.”

The public exposure of these internal issues has been met with varied responses. Former PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf has denied the existence of any factionalism within the team. “There are no groups in the dressing room,” Ashraf recently stated. However, the alleged rift among players has sparked concerns about the team’s performance.
