The Indian Premier League (IPL) has earned itself a reputation of being the stage where youngsters get the full opportunity to showcase their talents. Sometimes, purely on the basis of a good IPL season, young cricketers are fast-tracked into their national teams. This was the case with Umran Malik too. The young Indian pacer had every cricket fan on the edge of their seats courtesy of the pace with which he was bowling. An Indian bowler consistently bowling at 150 kmph, this is something that was rarely heard of.
What Went Wrong With Umran? Paras Mhambrey Reveals
Umran Malik, courtesy of his express pace was fast-tracked into the Indian team but how he gradually faded away is a something that has come across as a surprise to many. Umran had taken 24 wickets from 18 matches in the 2022 edition of the IPL. The young India pacer clocked 156 kph, the fastest-ball ever bowled by an Indian during the IND vs SL ODI series.

Malik last played for India in July 2023. As far as his recent IPL performances go, they haven't been great either. Umran, who might be eyeing an India comeback but an illness has ruled him out of the Duleep Trophy India B squad for the first round of matches. India's ex-bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey has now revealed the real reason behind Malik's struggles.

'Umran is a classic case of who has not played enough red-ball cricket. He came to the reckoning through the IPL. That's 24 balls in a game. Sometimes you don't even get to bowl 24 balls. The amount of pressure of bowling 24 balls is not like the red ball. I feel this (T20) is not a format to judge a prospect', Mhambrey revealed.
Mhambrey Reveals How He Assesses Bowlers
Paras Mhambrey recently signed off as India's T20 World Cup winning coach. Mhambrey who was also a very successful Ranji bowler said that he is never impressed after seeing few good performances of players. Mhambrey stressed on the fact that he is someone who believes in long term results.
