ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a stunning U-turn on the appointment of Aqib Javed as the head coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team, publicly embarrassing themselves in the process yet again.
PCB's flip-flop continues as usual
Just 24 hours after denying reports that Aqib Javed would replace Jason Gillespie as head coach, the PCB announced Javed's appointment as interim head coach of the Pakistan's white-ball teams until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This contradictory decision has left fans and experts alike scratching their heads.
The PCB had initially dismissed reports of Aqib Javed's appointment, confirming that Jason Gillespie would remain in charge of the team. However, the board has now reversed its stance, appointing Javed as interim head coach and assigning him additional responsibilities.
This flip-flop has raised questions about the PCB's decision-making process and communication strategy. The board's inability to stick to their decisions has created uncertainty and instability within the team.
PCB As Indecisive As Ever
The search for a permanent white-ball head coach continues, with the PCB aiming to complete the appointment by the end of the ICC Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, fans and players alike are left wondering about the future direction of Pakistan cricket under the current leadership.
Following Gary Kirsten's resignation, the white-ball coaching position became vacant. Jason Gillespie, the red-ball head coach, had temporarily taken charge of the team during their recent tour of Australia. He will now rejoin the team for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
Pakistan's men's team has a busy schedule ahead, with several international matches lined up. They will play three ODIs and three T20Is in Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5, followed by three white-ball matches in South Africa from December 10 to 22.
In preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan will host an ODI triangular series featuring New Zealand and South Africa from February 8 to 14. This series will serve as a crucial warm-up for the team ahead of the Champions Trophy.
