PM Narendra Modi arrived at Biarritz on Sunday to attend the G7 Summit as a Special Biarritz Partner. Modi met British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to discuss bilateral ties. As shared by the MEA, PM Modi and Boris Johnson discussed strengthening bilateral ties in trade & investment, defence and security, and education sectors. At the same time, the ongoing Ashes series also came up. Yes, you have heard it right.

PM Modi breaks the news of England's Ashes win to UK PM Boris Johnson at G7

While PM Modi and Boris Johnson were discussing bilateral ties, the high-octane Ashes series which is currently being played between England and Australia was also a topic of discussion. It so happened that Boris Johnson was unaware about England's emphatic win until the news was broken out by PM Modi himself. PM Modi started by congratulating his UK counterpart for England's series-levelling win in the third Test match riding on an outstanding knock from Ben Stokes. However, Boris Johnson asked for an iPad post which he went through the highlights of the match on Day 4. Later, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison congratulated Boris Johnson on England's win. But, Morrison then jokingly replied, "Two to go, two to go" as both teams are tied at 1-1 in the five-match Test series with two more games left.

Ben Stokes' century help England level the series 

Ben Stokes played an outstanding knock which denied an Australian victory to keep the Ashes alive. After skipper Joe Root's dismissal, the onus was on Ben Stokes to handle the Australian bowling line up which he did in style. Ben Stokes scored an unbeaten 219-ball 135 as he hosts registered a famous win with one wicket left. The series is now level at 1-1 with two games to be played.

G7 Summit 2019

The host of the G7 Summit, President of France, Macron has narrowed down the theme of the Summit to 'fighting inequality' amid other issues looming across the globe including- the US-China trade war, Tehran-Washington escalating tensions and the enormously distressing fire in the Amazon rainforest. Permanent world leaders of G7 France President Emmanuel Macron, US President Donald Trump, Canada PM Justin Trudeau, British PM Boris Johnson, Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japan PM Shinzō Abe, and Italy PM Giuseppe Conte are currently in attendance at the annual meet. They are scheduled to discuss vast issues ranging from economy, social inequalities and gender.
