Punjab Kings' story in the Indian Premier League is nothing short of a curious case. A franchise that has never faced a dearth of quality cricketing talent somehow finds a way to crash out of the tournament. In the last seventeen seasons of the IPL, Punjab has played only one final despite having the very best of the cricketing world at their disposal. The Kings pulled off a historic chase in the seventeenth edition of the IPL, but even that didn't help their case. Punjab Kings chased down 262 odd runs against eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
Trevor Bayliss Unlikely To Continue as Punjab Kings Head Coach
With just 5 wins from 15 league games, Punjab finished at the ninth spot in IPL 2024. A lot of credit goes to the young guns of the team Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh who saved the team on many occasions and contributed to the five victories. Just like every year, it is now being reported that Punjab Kings might revamp their coaching staff keeping the mega auctions and the next season in mind.

Weeks after Ricky Ponting's exit as the Head Coach of Delhi Capital, it is now being said that Trevor Bayliss' time as the Head Coach of the Kings is coming to an end. As per a report published in Cricbuzz, sources close to the franchise have said that PBKS are looking for an Indian coach to handle the team. Bayliss' two-year contract with the Kings has ended and the franchise might not renew it. As of now Punjab's preference for their new Head Coach remains unclear.

Punjab Kings Look To Emulate KKR's Plans?
Punjab lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the finals of IPL 2014 and since then haven't been able to qualify for the same. Kolkata Knight Riders, the champions of IPL 2024 won their third title under the supervision of Chandrakant Pandit and Gautam Gambhir. While Chandu Pandit was appointed KKR's Head Coach in 2023, Gambhir joined the team as a mentor in 2024 and the rest is history. Punjab Kings' former Head Coach and the director of cricket development Sanjay Bangar is believed to be the frontrunner for the job.
