Rachael Haynes calls victory over Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI a 'good reward'

The Australian women's cricket team secured a massive 110-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second ODI. Their win at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane marked their 17th consecutive win in the format, equalling the record run that the Australian team enjoyed back between 1997 and 1999. The win also saw Meg Lanning's team take an unassailable lead in the ODI Championship with 32-points after 17 of 21 matches. Australian batter Rachel Haynes has reportedly termed the feat as a good reward for their consistent performances.

"I think it's a really good reward for our consistent performances over the last little bit. There's been some terrific individual performances as well within that, but holistically the team has been playing really well and that's probably been the most pleasing thing”. She further added “I'm not sure if all our team was alive back then. That era, that generation of cricketers were so formidable and they had a lot of success as well. It really created the standard in terms of what's expected when you play cricket in this team. If we get past that milestone it'll be a pretty wonderful achievement, but it's not lost on us how incredible they were as well." Haynes added.

Australia's performance

Australia has recorded series sweeps against India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and West Indies. They also hold a 2-0 lead in the ongoing contest against Sri Lanka. Australia also won the first edition of the Championship in 2016, winning 18 of their 21 matches. Australia has reportedly just dropped one match since the start of the 2017 Ashes. The Championship sees the top eight nations that play each other in the three ODI's across the three-year period and further determines the teams that automatically qualify for the next 50-over World Cup, that will be played in New Zealand in the year 2021. The third ODI between Sri Lanka and Australia will be played on October 09. The team has further cemented their place at the tournament and will be joined by the next three highest qualifiers plus hosts New Zealand.
