The 2024 Duleep Trophy is giving a lot of Indian domestic cricketers invaluable playing time, experience and learning opportunities to match up their skills against India's top players like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul , Ruturaj Gaikwad among others.

However, in a controversial moment during the Duleep Trophy, India C skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad took a risky DRS against Ricky Bhui when the batter was given not out leg before wicket. As it turns out, Ravichandran Ashwin has given his honest take on Ricky Bhui's dismissal.

Ricky Bhui's dismissal

On Day 2 of Duleep Trophy, Ricky Bhui was batting on 44 when he was trapped by India C spinner Manav Suthar LBW. The on-field decision was given not out by the umpire. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad decided to go upstairs and upon DRS review, Ricky Bhui was concluded to be out.

While, it was disappointing for Ricky Bhui to lose his wicket in such manner but according to veteran Indian Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin it is a great learning experience for youngsters and other domestic players. Here's why.

Why Ricky Bhui's dismissal is a good thing?

Ravichandran Ashwin is keeping a close eye on the Duleep Trophy 2024 and believes that the decision to include DRS is a great thing and will help batters like Ricky Bhui learn.

Ravi Ashwin explained his reasoning by citing Ricky Bhui's stance. Ricky Bhui plays with a ‘pad first’ stance in which a batter moves towards the ball on the front foot with his pad and then his bat.

Traditionally when batters come onto the front foot umpires hesitate to give them out LBW. However, with the inclusion of DRS technology, there is no way a batter can escape with this stance and hence end up giving their wickets.

According to R Ashwin, inclusion of DRS in domestic cricket will allow players to be more ready and cut out for the international stage.

“This was not a faulty technique pre DRS but now it is. Back in the day batters were given not out just because they managed to get on the front foot. Now, keeping your bat behind the pad can be fatal, imagine someone making the climb to international cricket without getting this experience Ricky got yesterday,” wrote Ravichandran Ashwin on his twitter account.
