Ind vs Ban: India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin lavished praise on Ravindra Jadeja after India completed Day 1 in a commanding position. The hosts were in a spot of bother when Jadeja joined Ashwin in the middle. India at that point were reeling at 144 for six. But then, they turned on the heat on Bangladesh with a counter-attack. Ashwin also brought up his sixth Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 102. Admitting that there came a time when he was getting tired, Ashwin said that is when Jadeja took the pressure of him with boundaries. He also claimed that Jadeja has matured as a batter.

'We don't have to convert twos into threes'

"Jadeja was of real help, there was a point where I was sweating and tiring but Jaddu helped me through the phase. He's been solid and one of our best batters. He told me we don't have to convert twos into threes, which helped me (smiles)," Ashwin said after the day's play.

"Overspin will fetch bounce, spinners will come into play later. The new ball will do a bit tomorrow, we'll have to start afresh," Ashwin speaks about the Chepauk strip.

Ashwin also admitted that he felt lucky to have got the hundred at his home ground.

"Always special to play here. Last time I got a hundred here, you [Ravi Shastri] were the coach. Thanks for that," Ashwin added further.

DAY WRAP

At stumps on Day 1, India are 339 for six. After being put into bat, India got off to a disastrous start, losing three wickets inside the first hour. Hasan Mahmud was the wrecker-in-chief as he got the ball to do the talking. Jadeja is on 86* and he too would be eyeing a century tomorrow.
