India and Australia are all set to lock horns in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be played in November later this year. India are the defending champions of the BGT and have won four consecutive Test series against Australia. The top two teams in the standings of the World Test Championship, India and Australia are the clear favourites to play the WTC final in Lord's next year, but the five Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar trophy will go a long way in deciding the future of the both teams.

Ricky Ponting Picks India's Biggest Match-Winner

After the 2014 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia have always ended up being on the losing side and this time are desperate to turn things around. Virat Kohli has been Australia's biggest threat and he undoubtedly is India's main man. Virat Kohli plays a different level of cricket whenever he is in Australia and that often leaves the Kangaroos clueless and begging for answers.

But according to former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting, Aussies need to beware of Rishabh Pant , more that Virat Kohli . In his last two Test tours to Australia, Pant has performed exceedingly well and has turned matches with his own bat. Not only just with his batting, but Rishabh Pant 's constant stump mic chatter also leaves the Aussies helpless and it doesn't let them concentrate on the ball. Ricky Ponting, while speaking on Sky Sports, lavished praise on Rishabh Pant.

'We've all seen him play and heard him in the stump mic, he's an infectious character to have around the group. He loves his cricket, he's a winner, that's what he is. He doesn't just play to make a few runs and be out there for the fun of it. He must have 4 or 5 Test hundreds already and he's got about nine 90s as well. Dhoni played for 90 Tests and made 6 hundreds, this is how good this guy Rishabh Pant is', said Ponting

India Eye Fifth Consecutive BGT Title

For the past 10 years, the Indian cricket team has had an upper hand over the Australian cricket team as far as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is concerned. The Indian cricket team defeated Australia in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21 and will look to replicate their heroics once again.
