As India hosted Bangladesh in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant's name started trending on Twitter because of another performance which was not on-par with the mammoth expectations laid on the youngster's shoulders. India lost a T20I match to Bangladesh for the first time ever and among the players who were blamed, Pant was a prime candidate. Pant was making his comeback in the Indian team after having missed out on the South African Tests last month.
When will Pant turn his image around?
Rishabh Pant's immense talent has not been backed up by his international numbers. He has received a lot of flak for his reckless approach which has made the Indian team management clarify that they still believed in the potential that Pant held. Among cricket fans and experts, Pant remains a major talking point as some cited his lack of experience as the reason behind his unimpressive performance, while others feel that Pant would never be able to replace MS Dhoni. Only two months ago, Pant was considered to be the No.1 choice for being India's wicketkeeper-batsman the day Dhoni calls it quits. But after Pant got replaced by Wriddhiman Saha in the South Africa Tests, Pant's position may be in danger if he cannot turn things around quickly.
Meme-makers get to work
In yesterday's game, Pant only managed to score 27 runs in the 26 balls he faced. Pant, usually an explosive batsman, only managed to hit four boundaries in yesterday's game. His lack of judgement also added to his batting woes as during the Bangladesh innings, Pant made a failed call for DRS which infuriated fans further. Fans took to Twitter to create Pant memes and here are some memes from the trending #RishabhPant hashtag.
