Rishabh Pant was bringing India back in game with his counterpunch but that is when he found himself on wrong side of umpire's call during 3rd Test. It was an Ish Sodhi delivery that beat Pant and hit him on pads, umpire raised his finger. Pant had a long chat with Shubman Gill before opting for DRS. replays showed that ball was clipping stumps as Pant was deep in his crease. Pant was visibly disappointed as he walked out of ground to dressing-room. He also flung his bat in anger and had a word with umpire as well. Pant departed for a breathtaking 60 off 59 balls. Meanwhile, Pant’s blitz and Shubman Gill’s resolute unbeaten 70 propelled India’s counterattack on second morning of final Test as hosts raced to 195 for five at lunch, trailing New Zealand by ar 40 runs in first innings.

Having ceded control to New Zealand in final minutes of opening day’s play with an embarrassing collapse, India showed better resolve to make a speedy recovery while kcking off a significant chunk of first-innings deficit.

At lunch, Ravindra Jadeja (10 t out) was accompanying Gill who hit four boundaries and a six in his 106 ball stay and helped India get to a comfortable position.

After lunch, India will hope that Gill and Jadeja can continue good work and take side into lead which is 40 runs away. Once that happens, pressure will tilt towards New Zealand side. Gill is key from here on and he would be hoping that he gets support from remaining batters.
