Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been at the forefront of many memorable Indian victories. India's first Champions Trophy victory came in 2013 and lot of the credit for that goes to the do of Rohit and Shikhar who stood tall and ensured India get a blazing start. From 2013 to 2019, Shikhar stood toe-to-toe with his compatriot and opening partner Rohit Sharma and proved to be equally effective in the white ball games.
One can possibly argue, that the Shikar-Rohit dup wasn't as aggressive and swashbuckling as a Jonny Bairstow or Jason Roy, but let's not forget the fact that India rarely experienced the luxury of batting deep in that era. When somebody speaks about the hyden-Gilchrist, Sachin-Sehwag, Sachin-Ganguly and Greenidge-Haynes eras, Rohit and Shikhar can't be left out.

Unfortunately for Shikhar Dhawan, a stalwart like him gradually faded away and it went unnoticed. A part of it is also to be blamed on the fact that, India in the past few years has seen openers in abundance across all formats. In his last couple of years in international cricket, Dhawan was also bestowed with the responsibility of leading India in the ODIs and he did well. Th former India opener led India's youngsters to memorable series victories, but it was his bat that gradually stopped talking.
