Months after the T20 World Cup win, India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson made a massive revelation about the playing XI for the game. Samson claims that he was going to feature in the summit clash versus South Africa, but a decision was taken by the captain which changed things. Samson, who had not played a single game in the tournament, reveals that Rohit told him why he was being picked minutes before the toss.

‘I was told to stay ready’

"I had a chance to play the final. I was told to stay ready. I was ready. However, they decided before the toss that we would go with the same team. I was like, no worries. I was in that type of mood," Samson told journalist Vimal Kumar in an interview.

Samson claimed that Rohit had informed him about it.

"During the warm-up, Rohit took me to the side and started to explain to me why he is making that decision. He was like, You understood, na? You know his way, very casual? I told him, 'Let us win the match and then talk.' You focus on the match."

‘I think you are not happy’

He added, “He came back one minute later and said, 'I know you are cursing me in your mind.' I think you are not happy. I feel like you have something on your mind. Then we had a discussion. I told him, 'As a player, I want to play'.”

Currently, Samson hit a T20I century against Bangladesh at home.

Following the T20 World Cup , stalwarts Virat Kohli , Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the format after India won the T20 WC. It was a campaign to remember for the Men in Blue as they clinched an ICC trophy after more than a decade.
