Bolstered by Sharma's exceptional captaincy, the Indian bowlers played a pivotal role in securing a seven-wicket victory in the Newlands Test, marking a rare win for the former Mumbai Indians skipper.

Notably, with this win, Sharma becomes the first-ever Asian captain to clinch a Test victory at Cape Town, long considered a fortress for the home side against subcontinental teams. Before this triumph, India had managed only two draws and suffered three losses at Cape Town since 1993.
