Rohit Sharma faced a critical test of leadership in the second Test at Cape Town, following India's crushing defeat in the Centurion match against South Africa. Bolstered by Sharma's exceptional captaincy, the Indian bowlers played a pivotal role in securing a seven-wicket victory in the Newlands Test, marking a rare win for the former Mumbai Indians skipper.

Notably, with this win, Sharma becomes the first-ever Asian captain to clinch a Test victory at Cape Town, long considered a fortress for the home side against subcontinental teams. Before this triumph, India had managed only two draws and suffered three losses at Cape Town since 1993.

This victory also stands as India's fifth-best Test win in South Africa, as the match concluded in just under two days, with bowlers claiming 33 wickets. South Africa batted twice, and India completed their first innings. The memorable win required India to chase down 79 runs, securing a 1-1 series level. Rohit Sharma, remaining unbeaten on 17, scored the winning run alongside Shreyas Iyer.

Furthermore, Sharma joins the ranks of MS Dhoni (2010-2011) as the second Indian captain to draw a series in South Africa. Despite the team's success, Sharma's personal performance on the tour was less than stellar, with the opener scoring only 61 runs in two matches, falling below his usual high standards.
