Indian opener Rohit Sharma brought up his third hundred in the ongoing series against the Proteas on Saturday. This ton made Rohit Sharma the second Indian opener after Sunil Gavaskar to hit three or more hundreds in one Test series. Rohit Sharma, who was cautious at the start as India lost three quick wickets but despite losing wickets at the other end, Rohit sent the bad deliveries to the fence.
Not only this, but the right-hander with his 16th six also went past Shimron Hetmyer to become the player with the most number of sixes in a Test series.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane’s partnership
The two batsmen resumed the Indian innings at 71-3 after lunch with counter-attacking batting throughout the session. When India reached 189, Sharma and Rahane brought up their 150-run partnership in just 188 deliveries. With 134 runs in 29 overs, the duo made sure that Team India did not lose any further wickets till tea. This inning came at a crucial juncture for the Indian batting as the hosts were struggling at 39-3 after Kohli’s dismissal in the morning session.
Bad Light forces early call of the play
Just when India geared up on powering its inning, poor lighting played a spoilsport and the play had to be adjourned. The third test match between India and South Africa was stopped shortly after tea due to bad light and rains, as Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane frustrated the Proteas bowlers. After three early scalps in the day, South Africa's bowling attack struggled to bowl to Rohit Sharma and Rahane as the two built a crucial partnership of 185 runs, helping India recover from an early collapse.
