Rohit Sharma on Sunday surpassed Virat Kohli's record in the first T20I against Bangladesh to become the highest run-getter in the shortest format of that game. India, however, lost the match as Bangladesh Captain Mahmudullah finished off in style to take Bangladesh home. Sharma played a knock of nine runs to leapfrog Kohli as the highest run-getter. By doing so, he took his run tally to 2,452 runs, going two runs ahead of Kohli's total.
Furthermore, with yesterday's match Sharma also became the most capped player for India in the shortest format of the game. He has now played 99 matches for the Men in Blue, breaking MS Dhoni's record of 98 appearances.

Rohit Sharma’s T20I captaincy record
Four-time IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma has successfully led Team India to impressive victories whenever regular captain Virat Kohli made himself unavailable. Even in 2018’s Nidahas Trophy, Rohit Sharma led a spirited Indian unit to tri-series win after losing the first match of the tournament. In the final game against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma top-scored with 56 to lead the charge of India’s successful run-chase. The right-handed batsman has led Team India to 12 wins in 15 T20 internationals. With a win percentage of 80%, Rohit Sharma holds a better success rate than other T20 veterans like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Sharma has also led India in 10 ODI matches.

The high-profile match, owing to the high pollution levels in Delhi, witnessed a low-scoring but a spectacular show from the Bangladesh team as they took the match up till the last over to hand India defeat in the first match of the three-match T20 series. The second T20 will be played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on November 7.
