Rohit Sharma quashes off comparisons with ex-opener Virender Sehwag

Rohit Sharma will lead Team India in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. The first game will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Nov 3.

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma is enjoying a golden run with the bat. The right-handed batsman smashed five centuries in the ICC Cricket World Cup in England and ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer. Sharma also enjoyed much success in the home Test series against South Africa, scoring 529 runs at a Bradman-esque average of 132.25.

Rohit Sharma quashes off comparisons with Virender Sehwag

Sharma’s recent success as India’s opener has prompted many fans to draw comparisons with former explosive batsman Virender Sehwag. At a recent event, Sharma told reporters that while he acknowledges the comparisons, the fact remains that the similarity in the batting styles of the two is just public perception and not entirely accurate.

He also went on to praise the former Indian opener by saying that Sehwag’s contribution towards Indian cricket has been remarkable. He also added that 'Sehwag is Sehwag' and he played in a way in which the team wanted him to, something that the Sharma wants to emulate himself.

Regular skipper Virat Kohli has been rested for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. Limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will now be leading the Indian team against the visitors. Sharma has already led Team India before. He boasts an impressive captaincy record with 12 wins out of 15 T20 internationals. The opening match of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on November 3. The fixture will be followed by two more games in Rajkot and Nagpur on November 7 and 10 respectively.
