Gautam Gambhir Picks His All-time India XI
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Gautam Gambhir has divulged what he deems is the greatest Indian team of all time. He gathered names from different eras and put them together to form his all-time XI. Gambhir's XI contained the names of the individuals that he shared the dressing room with. He did not shy away from naming himself as part of the group as well.
He gave the opening slot to himself and the most attacking batsman of his time, Virender Sehwag. He moved from the most offensive batter to the greatest batsman of all time, Sachin Tendulkar. He gave the no.3 spot to "The Wall" Rahul Dravid. He brought in Virat Kohli in the order next and followed up with Yuvraj Singh, who Gambhir once reckoned as the greatest white ball player of all time. To make the batting unit even more formidable he put the greatest finisher MS Dhoni at 7. When it comes to the bowling department, he vehemently picked Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, and surprise surprise Irfan Pathan.
Irfan Pathan was a lethal bowler in his time but many experts still push him in the category of players who could not live up to their full potential.
Major Missings Gautam Gambhir's Squad
Gautam Gambhir hasn't taken the name of the India captain under whose regime he made his debut, Sourav Ganguly. Moreover, he did not take the name of India's greatest all-rounder the winning captain of the 1983 World Cup, Kapil Dev.
