Speculations are rife over Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli 's future in red-ball cricket and that is the reason why chief selector Ajit Agarkar is in Australia. Agarkar is set to stay in Australia for all the five Tests. During this time, he is expected to work closely with head coach Gautam Gambhir . What is expected to be discussed at length by Agarkar and Gambhir is the red-ball future of Rohit and Kohli.
TIME FOR CHANGE?
In fact, just after India's humiliating whitewash against New Zealand at home, there have been talks surrounding the future of the senior players in the team like Kohli, Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin. With all four cricketers in their late 30s – and Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja having already retired from T20Is – the BCCI is expected to summon them and discuss their future.
BGT RECENT HISTORY
India has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on last four occasions – both at home and away conditions – since 2016/17. The trophy, named after the first two batsmen to pass 10,000 runs from their respective countries – Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar – will be up for grabs again when India and Australia play first Test at Perth on November 22. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was constituted in 1996/97, with India winning 24 matches and Australia emerging victorious on 20 occasions.
The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy will be crucial for Team India as they aim to keep their case for the World Test Championship Final at Lord's Cricket Ground. After the shambolic loss at the hands of New Zealand at home, the Men in Blue's case have become weaker, and they need a solid series win to keep themselves in contention for the spot.
