Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who got off to a flying start in his debut performance as an opener in Test cricket was termed just 'okay' by New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham. A fan asked Neesham for his views on Sharma's performance in first Test and all-rounder replied: "I think it's fair to say he's started ok."

Rohit Sharma silenced his critics who were questioning his place in side for longest format of game after a duck in preparatory game. He was exceptional in match as he scored 176 runs in first innings and n he went on to score 126 in second innings. With this, he became only second Indian opener to score centuries in both innings of a Test match. After Rohit Sharma h me his way back to dressing room during lunch on second day of ongoing Test match, he was patted on back by his skipper Virat Kohli for his sparkling kck in first innings.

In match, Rohit also surpassed Wasim Akram to hit most number of sixes in a Test match. He achieved feat on day four of first Test match between India and South Africa. India vs South Africa saw most number of sixes hit in a Test match as a record 37 sixes were hit during recently concluded Test in Vizag. previous best was 35 during Sharjah Test between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2014.
With this performance, Sharma reached his career-best 17th position in ICC Test batsmen rankings. India won first Test against South Africa by 203 runs and team will face Proteas in second Test, slated to begin on October 10.
