Rinku Singh's six crashed into the media box's glass panel

Rinku Singh's fame is growing as the middle-order batsman demonstrated his talent with an excellent unbeaten innings of 68 runs off 39 balls against South Africa in the second T20I. Rinku's incredible performance was his maiden T20I fifty, adding to his fabuolous debut for India in August. While Rinku has been lauded for his powerful hits, the left-handed batter proved on Tuesday that he is more than simply an explosive option in the death overs.

Rinku made an early impact with a straight drive for four after entering the crease in the sixth over following Tilak Varma's removal. Rinku stayed cool for the next four overs as Suryakumar Yadav found his rhythm and settled in. He began to show his power in the 11th over, hitting back-to-back boundaries off Marco Jansen. Rinku unleashed in the 13th over, smacking three fours from Andile Phehlukwayo and three more off Lizaad Williams to reach fifty in just 30 balls.

Rinku then changed his strategy, playing four consecutive boundary-free overs. With only two overs remaining, he unleashed his rage once more. Rinku not only powered India to a total of 180 by hitting successive sixes off Aiden Markram, but he also damaged the glass panel of the media box at St. George's Park in Gqeberha. Rinku's shot caused a substantial crack in the glass. Interestingly, this was Rinku's penultimate scoring shot before rain ended India's innings at 180/7.

However, Rinku's efforts went in vain as South Africa successfully chased the modified target of 152 in 15 overs, gaining a 1-0 lead in the series . Despite the setback, Rinku was once again a major highlight for Team India.

South Africa’s legend on Rinku Singh’s powerful shot

Speaking on Rinku Singh, South African legendary cricketer Dale Steyn, who was on commentary duty, said:

Yes, and someone in the eastern bay of Gqeberha won't be too happy with Rinku Singh breaking one of their windows.

Wonderful shots. The off-spinners are kind of difficult to get a hold of. Aiden Markram saw a gap for himself there. He had picked up a wicket so maybe he thought 'let me squeeze another one here or slip in a quick over, but Rinku had a different idea. Managed to come down the wicket, get to the pitch of that delivery and just break a window in the process. Nonetheless it was a great shot.

Team India will play its 3rd and final T20I match against South Africa on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Wanderers Stadium.
