'They Just Want Him': Sanjay Manjrekar Attacks BCCI's Selection Over Their Obsession With KL Rahul

India are currently on the second spot of the World Test Championship points table. India will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series

Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025: India are currently in hot waters after homes series loss to New Zealand. Rohit Sharma and Co. who were almost certain to play the World Test Championship finals are now virtually out of the contest. If India are to make a case for themselves to play the WTC finals, they will have to defeat Australia 4-0 in the five-match Test series. The only thing that goes against India is that they can't lose a single BGT Test match.

Sanjay Manjrekar Slams Indian Selectors

The biggest problem and confusion with India lies with their opening combination. India's Test captain and opening batsman Rohit Sharma is uncertain to travel to Australia due to personal reasons. As a makeshift arrangement, India have added opener Abhimanyu Easwaran to the squad as a backup for Rohit.

The BCCI also sent KL Rahul to play and India A game against Australia. The selection committee reportedly wanted to monitor Rahul's form, but Rahul has disappointed yet again and the chances of his inclusion in the side as an opener looks bleak. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar while speaking to ESPN Cricinfo slammed the BCCI selection committee for persisting with Rahul.

'So that is the time when you go back and do the right thing. And play players who deserve to get a chance. KL Rahul. You know, I don't know, there's some fascination that the team management, selectors have for him that they just want him part of the playing 11, whether it's at the top or down the order.', said Manjrekar
