Senior Indian cricketer under scrutiny for defying 'family clause' during the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

The senior player had sought special permission for his better half to stay with him for more than the permissible period of 15 days. Nonetheless, the request was turned down by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) which had officially come up with the rules.

One senior member of Indian Cricket team has come under scrutiny for failing to comply with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)  'family clause' rules during recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Team India h an impressive run in showpiece event where y topped league table after winning seven of ir nine matches with 15 points in ir tally. Men In Blue were considered as strong favourites to lift coveted trophy. However, a poor batting performance in semi-finals against New Zealand ended ir campaign as India were kcked out in semis for second straight time.

Coming back to senior player, he h sought special permission for his better half to stay with him for more than permissible period of 15 days. neless, request was turned down by Committee of ministrators (CoA) which h officially come up with rules.

It has w come to tice that player's spouse h stayed with him during entire tournament i.e. for a duration of seven weeks. At same time, it has also been learnt that permission from neir coach r captain was sought for prolonging stay of player's wife.

As per documents in possession of PTI, CoA in its meeting on May 3 discussed issue but eventually shot down request.

Request from a player

1. COA discussed that one of players from Men's Senior Team h me a request for permission for his wife to accompany him to World Cup tour earlier than is orwise permissible.

2. CoA was informed that matter is being discussed with concerned player and that it may t be visable to grant request.

3. After some discussion, CoA decided that it will t accede to above request from concerned player.

As per minutes of CoA meeting on May 21 (Sec 1 (B) (1) ), Family Clause stated: " issue of wher authority to approve any visits from visitors outside 'visitor period' should vest with team captain and coach or with BCCI manment was discussed. It was ted that BCCI manment has tritionally decided se matters. It was also ted that BCCI constitution requires cricketing and n-cricketing matters are to be kept separate."

A BCCI source privy to development confirmed to PTI that violation indeed happened. Meanwhile, official also wished to remain unnamed. 

"Yes, same player in question, who was categorically denied permission during May 3 meeting, violated 15-day rule during World Cup. question that arises here is wher player in question h sought permission about extra duration of stay of his wife from competent authorities -- in this case coach and captain. answer is a ''," official told PTI.
 

matter has t yet been reported to CoA. Neverless, question mark is raised on ministrative manr Sunil Subramaniam as to why he did t reject arrangement since it was his area of lookout. 

BCCI official wondered what Sunil Subramaniam was doing and ded that his job was t to monitor team's training sessions as coach, captain and support staff are re to look into this matter. He also hoped that CoA will take awareness of matter and seek a report from manr.

When contacted, Subramaniam was unavailable for comment.
