Bangladesh unrest: The Bangladesh Cricket Team looked all set to take on arch-rivals Pakistan, but little did anybody know that a peaceful student protest against controversial quota system for government jobs will escalate into a national crisis. The crisis in Bangladesh has escalated to a whole new level and has led to the resignation of their Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The ongoing protests and curfew have claimed 300 lives so far and has become the biggest political event in the nation's history

Bangladesh Cricket Team Bears The Brunt Of Political Unrest

The Bangladesh Cricket Team looked all set to take on Pakistan in a two-match Test series starting August 21, 2024 but everything looks doubtful now after the growing unrest. The Bangladesh Cricket team's preparations for their upcoming tour have been halted and this comes as a major blow considering the World Test Championships (WTC). The political crisis and unrest in the country has led to severe disruptions in their training.

"We are not sure when we can hold the practice because there is a curfew for indefinite period. Our administration is looking after the matter and we can get a better understanding of the situation after they brief us about the present condition", said a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Bangladesh Cricket Team was scheduled to board their flights to Pakistan on August 17. The first Bangladesh vs Pakistan Test match was scheduled to be played from August 21-25 in Rawalpindi. Karachi on the other hand was bestowed with the hosting rights of the second Test match scheduled to be played from August 30 to September 3.

Sheikh Hasina Steps Down As Bangladesh Prime Minister

Putting an end to her 15-yer-long tenure as the Bangladesh PM, Sheikh Hasina has tendered her resignation amid the growing political unrest in Bangladesh. Protestors flocked the streets in large numbers, defied military curfew and stormed into Hasina's official residence.  Bangladesh’s military chief Gen. Waker-uz-Zaman has now seek the president's guidance to form an interim government in the nation.
