Cape Town Blitz skipper Quinton de Kock pulled a leaf out of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni's book during the match against Durban Heat on 17 November, as he pulled off a Dhonisque style run-out. On many occasions, wicketkeepers have drawn inspiration from MS Dhoni and his diverse keeping techniques to improvise their skills behind the tickets. De Kock, who is already familiar with some of Dhoni's tricks, pulled another one out of his bag, this time the one where he played a shrewd keeper who did not give any hint of running the batsman out until the very last moment when he dislodged the bails. Playing the patience game, de Kock stood behind the wickets with his hands to his side, as he waited for Ackerman to pick the ball and throw it towards the keeper's end. The batsman, Phehlukwayo, who thought he could complete two runs was outsmarted by de Kock as the keeper quickly grabbed the throw from Ackerman and dislodged the bails in a flash, sending the batsman packing.

De Kock leads Cape Town Blitz

De Kock will be leading the Cape Town Blitz in the second edition of the Mzansi Super League, starting on November 8. The series will see him donning the mantle of captain, wicketkeeper and batsman. Though some think taking on multiple roles may be burdensome, De Kock said that the additional duties would only positively impact his captaincy. He said that standing behind the wicket, he would be at the center of the action and in a better position to assess field movements and placements.  Talking about the national team’s poor performance this year, De Kock said that it was due to a transitional period within the team, and it was no reason for worry. He said that he was confident the team would mature and show its full potential in the coming days.
