Shreyas Iyer hails 'baller' Yashasvi Jaiswal after monumental 203

India's middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer hailed domestic cricketing sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal's performance and called him a 'baller' after his spectacular show in the List A game on Wednesday. Mumbai teenager Yashasvi Jaiswal on Wednesday smashed his way into the record books by becoming the youngest player to score a List-A double century. Playing in his debut Vijay Hazare season, the 17-year-old scored 203 off 154 balls, which included 12 sixes and 17 fours against a Jharkhand attack that included out-of-favor India pacer Varun Aaron and Shahbaz Nadeem. The opener's scintillating innings helped Mumbai set a mammoth target of 359 for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group A match. Jaiswal has been in fine form in the tournament, scoring 113 and 122 against Kerala and Goa respectively.

Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the youngest to score 200

Jaiswal’s innings comes just a week after Sanju Samson scored the fastest double century in List A cricket. Samson’s innings was also the highest score by a batsman in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019. Jaiswal originally hails from Uttar Pradesh but moved to Mumbai in order to pursue his cricketing career. Yashasvi Jaiswal's father is a shopkeeper in Badohi. Jaiswal's rise to stardom hasn’t been a smooth ride. He was thrown out of a dairy shop where he used to sleep at nights, while he also spent many nights in the tents at the maidans of Mumbai. Yashasvi Jaiswal is also said to have also sold paani puri for a living. With the help of a local coach Jwala Singh, Jaiswal stayed afloat and made his debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019.

A star in the making

Yashasvi Jaiswal has also represented India at the Under-19 level. He was the highest run-getter at the 2018 ACC U-19 Asia Cup. Jaiswal scored 319 and picked up 13/99 in a Harris Shield game, which resulted in the Limca Book of Records featuring his feat. This is because it is the world record for the most number of runs and wickets in a school cricket match by any player. His success can be attributed to Jwala Singh, who has also coached another Indian batting prodigy from Mumbai, Prithvi Shaw. Yashasvi Jaiswal's parents gave the power of attorney to Singh, enabling him as his guardian and a man responsible for his decisions. Singh would hope that Yashasvi Jaiswal, like his former pupil Shaw, makes it from the maidans to more headlines.
