Shubman Gill has succeeded in his first full assignment as the captain of Team India. Under Gill's stewardship, Team India overwhelmed Zimbabwe 4-1 at their home. Following the T20 World Cup win, the team that went to Zimbabwe was full of reserves. Thus, Gill was picked as the skipper. Nevertheless, he shined in the role as many of the players who played under Shubman in the series, when asked, were all praise towards his leadership chops. However, there have also been individuals, who haven't been impressed with Gill's captaincy. One among the men is a former India cricketer.

Amit Mishra does not see Shubman Gill as capable captain
Amit Mishra, who is known to present his views bluntly, did not shy away from stating that he does not see Shubman Gill in captaincy shoes. Mishra expressed his views during Shubhankar Mishra's show. He reasoned his stance by putting forward the way Shubman Gill captained Gujarat Titans. The former Indian bowler made it clear that he is not at all impressed with Shubman Gill's captaincy and voiced his opinion that he one shouldn't be made a captain of a franchise just because he is part of the Indian team.
"Mai Shubman ko captain nahi banaunga, kyonki maine usey IPL me dekha, he doesn't know ki captaincy kaise karna hai, uske paas captaincy ka idea hi nahi hai. (I would not have made him the captain. You saw the IPL this season, Gill doesn't know how to captain the side, he is clueless)," Mishra remarked.
"Just because he is a part of the Indian team, he shouldn't be made the captain. Gill has done well in the IPL over the last few seasons, he did fine in the Indian team as well. The Indian team made him the captain as they want to give him the leadership experience, which wasn't visible when he led Gujarat Titans in IPL," Mishra added.
As Rohit Sharma has retired from the T20 format, the Team India's captaincy for the shortest format is on offer. Along with Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill is also a contender, but it is safe to say that when it comes to general mandate, Gill would never get the vote from Amit Mishra. However, the final decision would rest with the new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Saba Karim Also Assessed Shubman Gill's Captaincy
While Amit Mishra did not fancy Shubman Gill as captain, former BCCI chief selector Saba Karim had contrasting views about his captaincy performance. Karim praised Shubman for leading the team to victory in Zimbabwe by losing the first game of the series.
"He performed fantastically as a captain. Pressure mounts on any captain after losing the first match, and that too a young captain," Karim said on Sony Sports.
