Now that Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are in the twilight of their careers, veteran India cricketer Dinesh Karthik picked their replacements. As per Karthik, young Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan are able enough to replace the two veterans. Gill and Sarfaraz have been promising in the limited chances they have received in Tests. They look to have the promise for the longer run. With the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy coming up, it would be interesting if the selectors opt for the two youngsters. Admitting that these are ‘big shoes’ to fill, Karthik reckoned Gill and Sarfaraz had the quality and calibre.

Both of those batters have done really well against England in the home series that recently happened at the start of the year. I have a feeling both of them will definitely be on that flight to Australia and will be trying to do their best. We will know if they're able to replace both Ajinkya and Pujara. Big shoes to fill, but they have the quality and calibre in them," Karthik stated on Cricbuzz.

Time and again, Gill has shown that he has the game to get the runs in challenging overseas conditions. Sarfaraz may not have been tested on overseas tracks, and hence it would be interesting to see how he copes with it if he gets the opportunity.
