Shubman Gill surpasses India captain Virat Kohli's 10-year-old record
India C Captain Shubman Gill became the youngest-known captain to lead a side in the Deodhar Trophy Final on Monday, breaking Virat Kohli's 10-year old record.

Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books when he led India C to the Deodhar Trophy final on Monday. Gill became the youngest known captain to lead a side in the Deodhar Trophy final. He broke current India Skipper Virat Kohli’s 10-year old record, who had led North Zone to the Deodhar Trophy final in the 2009-10 season at the age of 21.

Gill couldn’t contribute much on the occasion, after he was dismissed after just scoring a single, edging a Mohammad Siraj delivery to young Yashasvi Jaiswal who held onto it. Earlier in the match, India B won the toss and decided to bat posting 283/7 after Kedar Jadhav and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored half-centuries. Ishan Porel stole the headlines after he picked up a 5 wicket haul.

India B struggled to get going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shubman Gill’s opening partner Priyam Garg scored a fighting fifty as India C crumbled under pressure. India C need 94 runs from their final 10 overs, having scored 190/7 at the time of writing.
Shubman Gill breaks Virat Kohli's record
India Skipper Virat Kohli led North Zone in the 2009-10 Deodhar Trophy Final against West Zone. North Zone completed a comprehensive victory over their opponents to clinch the Deodhar Trophy title. Virat Kohli’s Delhi-teammate Unmukt Chand is next on the list, leading India B in the 2015-16 Deodhar Trophy final, which they lost to the Ambati Rayudu led India A by 87 runs.

Shubman Gill started the Deodhar Trophy on a positive note scoring a massive 143 against India A. His innings along with opening partner Mayank Agarwal’s hundred helped India C reach 366/3, eventually winning the contest by 232 runs. Shubman Gill is part of India's Test squad to take on Bangladesh later this month and will hope to showcase his talent if he gets the opportunity.
