'3-4 months ago, everybody was abusing me': KL Rahul's uber-confident reply to critics after 100

KL Rahul has spoken out about the internet abuse he faced throughout his recuperation and when he faltered in games where the team needed to win.

KL Rahul recently made history at the Centurion after he smashed a ton against South Africa at the SueprSport Park. The wicketkeeper-batter stood like a wall when Team India's top-batting line-up failed to put up the performance against the Proteas. Rahul sustained till the end and ended the innings after scoring 245 runs. KL was showered with praise after scoring his century, but he was being critiqued as he was coming off an injury.

KL Rahul opens up on the social media criticism

KL Rahul discussed social media criticism and how it had altered him as a person. While fresh off a record international century, Rahul talked out about how he kept going despite an injury received in the IPL and went on to perform in the ODI World Cup.

"It is difficult, obviously. You have your own personality, personality traits, characteristics. When you play international cricket, they all get challenged. As a person, as a cricketer, as an individual, you are challenged each day, each moment. Social media is a pressure. Today I have scored a hundred, so people are singing praises. Three-four months ago, everybody was abusing me. It's part of the game, but I can't say it doesn't affect you; it does. The sooner you realise that staying away from it is good for your game and your mindset, the better it is," KL Rahul said in the post-match press conference.

KL Rahul showed up as a hero when other Team India batters struggled to put up the numbers. With his stellar score of 101 runs off 137 balls, Rahul has become the sole visiting batter to score multiple test centuries at Centurion. Moreover, he is now the second wicketkeeper-batter after Rishabh Pant to secure a ton on South African soil.
