'Sometimes he needs...': Kyle Mayers opens up on Virat Kohli's infamous spat with LSG

Former India captain Virat Kohli was involved in an ugly altercation with Lucknow Super Giants players and support staff members during the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. Kohli got into a fight with LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir after having verbal spats with Naveen-ul-Haq, Kyle Mayers, and Amit Mishra on the field while the match was still in play. The incident occurred when Royal Challengers Bangalore travelled to Lucknow for their second of two matches against LSG on May 1.

IND vs WI: Kyle Mayers opens up on spat with Virat Kohli

West Indies star Kyle Mayers, who also had an argument with Virat Kohli after being dismissed for a duck by Mohammed Siraj, has opened up on the incident that took place during IPL 2023. When asked about his spat with Kohli, Mayers said   

"I think he is great. Sometimes he needs to get at the opposition to create any chance or anything he could possibly get out of the game. Being aggressive is always good. It shows courage and willingness to get your team across the line," Kyle Mayers said during a chat with FanCode.

Mayers also revealed that he considers former India captain Virat Kohli as his most prized wicket, even ahead of captain Rohit Sharma. Both Kohli and Rohit recently played in the Test series and ODI series against the Windies.

“Virat Kohli. Any bowler would like to get out Kohli, he’s one of the best players across formats,” Mayers said when asked about his most precious wicket between Kohli and Rohit.

Currently, both Kohli and Rohit are taking rest ahead of crucial upcoming tournaments like the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. In a recent ODI appearance, Kohli was part of the playing XI but didn't face any deliveries, providing an opportunity for the younger players to showcase their talent. He was subsequently not included in the team for the second and third ODIs.
