Relentless Siraj picked 6 wickets

Mohd. Siraj was in some mood yesterday. The right-armer destroyed Lanka's top order within a span of just 16 balls. He was relentless in his approach and was seemingly up for the challenge to complete his full quota of 10 overs. Witnessing his indefatigable attitude, the trainer got worried about Siraj, as he had bowled 7 overs in the spell already. Thus, the captain was advised to give him some rest. Rohit Sharma did comply, however, at the same time revealed that Siraj was willing to continue.

"It was very pleasing to watch from the slips (how Siraj bowled). He got the ball to move a bit more than the other two. We were riding behind him (Siraj) when he was bowling that spell," the skipper said. "He bowled seven overs in that spell, and I got a message from the trainer that we have to stop him now. He was quite desperate to bowl," said Rohit with a chuckle. However, Rohit said he was not planning to give Siraj another over. "He bowled seven overs, which is a lot. Siraj was in a similar situation against SL in Trivandrum, and he had bowled some 8-9 overs on the trot," he added.

India clinch Asia Cup 2023

After a blitz from Siraj, and contributions from Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, Team India bundled out Sri Lanka at a meagre score of 50. The sorry state of the innings could be gauged by the fact that 5 of the batsmen went without troubling the scorers.  In reply, the openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan completed the job within the first 7 overs. Siraj was adjudged the man of the match for his 6 for 21 in 7 overs.
