Sujith Wilson: Cricketers take to Twitter to mourn 2-year-old's death

Two-year-old Sujith Wilson passed away on Tuesday morning after being stuck in an abandoned borewell for over 80 hours. #RIPSujith started trending on Twitter.

A two-year-old child from Tamil Nadu, B Sujith Wilson lost his life near Nadukattupatti on Tuesday. The death occurred 80 hours after the little boy fell into an abandoned borewell near his house. Twitter was filled with condolences after Sujith's death was announced on the morning of October 29.

The cricket fraternity reacts

Popular cricketers like Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to share their condolences with their followers. Harbhajan's tweet, which was in Tamil, roughly translated to "irreparable tragedy, there is nothing I could do."

Sujith's death should not go in vain

The two-year-old's death brought to focus, the issue of mismanagement of abandoned borewells. Sujith's rescue operation lasted for 80 long hours before a foul smell from the borewell led to the authorities declaring his death. The Chief Minister clarified that rules regarding borewells are in place and the government is making sure that the rules are complied with. Sujith's rescue operation was being live broadcasted throughout Indian news channels after the two-year-old fell into the borewell on Friday.
