Suryakumar Yadav Hints At India's First Choice Spinner?

The Indian team management faced a lot of flak after they appointed Suryakumar Yadav as the skipper of India in the T20Is. With Rohit Sharma retiring from the T20Is, it was perceived that Pandya was the next in line to take over as the captain of India in the shortest international format. Pandya was India's vice captain in the T20 World Cup and performed decently in what was a victorious campaign for the 'men in blue'.

The first assignment for Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav will be a three-match series against Sri Lanka. The 'men in blue' underwent their first training session on July 23, 2024. While walking down for the net session, Suryakumar Yadav jokingly said to Axar Patel, 'Aaarm se, aaram se, 3 over ke baad tu hi dikhne waala hain idhar'. This certainly cements the fact till some extent that Patel is being considered as one of the permanent members of India's T20I team.

The First Litmus Test For India's Young Guns

India are the current champions of the T20 World Cup and they will keep the title till 2026. Both India and Sri Lanka will host the next edition of the T20 World Cup and the young guns of the Indian subcontinent will have ample amount of time to prepare themselves. During the pre-series press conference Gautam Gambhir said that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are world class athletes and it is never easy to lose them. Both Gambhir and SKY will have the onus on themselves to oversee the transition phase and build the Indian team before the next T20 World Cup.
