T20 World Cup 2021 could be shifted out of India due to COVID-19: PCB chief Wasim Khan

Wasim Khan, the CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, feels that the T20 World Cup 2021 could be hosted in the UAE due to the COVID-19 situation in India.

Hosting an event of stature of a World Cup is a matter of dignity for any cricketing nation. India, who hosted last edition of ICC T20 World Cup in 2016, is gearing up to host marque event yet again in 2021. With re being an exponential growth in cricket infrastructure in nation, India undoubtedly has all resources to pull off mega event successfully. However, CEO of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Wasim Khan, is of a contrasting opinion.

T20 World Cup 2021 t to be held in India?

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is optimistic about prospect of World Cup coming back to India, as seen recently in one of his Instagram posts where he launched tournament along with secretary Jay Shah in UAE. Wasim Khan feels that this could t likely be case as event could be moved out of country.

In an interview with Cricket Baaz, Khan expressed his concerns regarding COVID-19 situation in India and increasing number of cases. He assumed that T20 World Cup could be shifted to UAE because of same reasons. With England series coming up in 2021, along with Dream11 Indian Premier League, PCB chief opined that a proper assessment could only be made by April.

With tensions surrounding two neighbouring countries, Khan also confirmed that board has written to International Cricket Council (ICC) and BCCI expressing his concerns regarding visa for Pakistani contingent. He revealed that chairman Ehsan Mani has sought a written assurance to ensure team does t face any issues pertaining to ir visas.

Ganguly and Shah posed with coveted trophy back in vember. seventh edition of showpiece event was slated to be held in Australia earlier this year. However, it was called off due to pandemic. Sourav Ganguly had earlier stated that it is a great hour to have opportunity to organize event and ensured that he will leave stones unturned in preparations leading to tournament.
