Team India coaching job makes progress as interview for soon-to-be vacant role to be held today

As the ICC Men's T20 World Cup progresses in the US, the days are getting limited for Rahul Dravid as the head coach. The T20 World Cup is seen as the last of Dravid in the head coach position as he is all set to step down, allowing a new face to come in as the India coach. The coaching role has officially made some progress, and one of the top names in contention is Gautam Gambhir. Even though the BCCI invited applicants for the role, it seems like Gambhir is the sole man who applied for the role. As time goes by, the Indian Cricket Board is set to make some progress over the role, starting today

BCCI to host interview over head coaching role today, Gautam Gambhir likely the sole man in line 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to make some progress with the head coach position, which is soon set to be vacant. As per reports by The Indian Express, Gautam Gambhir will be appearing in front of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) in a Zoom call. The panel consists of former cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik. The reports also mention that after conducting the interviews, the advisory committee will forward their recommendations to the BCCI.

“We are conducting an interview session for candidates for the post of head coach and selector. The CAC will submit its recommendation to the BCCI and the board will make an official announcement thereafter,” a BCCI source reportedly confirmed.

This year, the BCCI opened their expectations as they were willing to bring in a foreign coach. But during the IPL 2024 season, multiple rumblings came out that the Board has approached former players and coaches like Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming, and more. But Jay Shah has to intervene and offer clarity in the situation that they haven't approached any foreign coach, citing that the applications are still open.

The term for the new head coach will begin in July 2024, probably from the Zimbabwe series, which will lead to the Border-Gavaskar trophy series against arch-rivals Australia by the end of the year.
