Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns with three-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians in a contest which was no less than a roller-coaster ride at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. The match went till the last ball and it was the Mumbai Indians who handled the pressure well and won this fixture by six runs.
Even though RCB lost their second straight game and are placed at the seventh spot in the points table, there was something for them to cheer for. Three of their star players completed their respective milestones. These players include RCB skipper Virat Kohli, Mr. 360 AB de Villiers and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Royal Challengers Bangalore took to Twitter to appreciate these stars.
It started with Yuzvendra Chahal becoming the first bowler to take 50 T20 wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He picked up 4 for 38 in his four overs at an economy of 9.50. He first castled a well-set Quinton de Cock before he was clobbered for three straight sixes by veteran southpaw Yuvraj Singh. However, it was Chahal who had the last laugh as he scalped the 'Player of the Tournament' of the 2011 World Cup when he attempted to go for a fourth straight six. Chahal then went on to pick up the wickets of Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav.
Then it was the turn of the charismatic Virat Kohli to take the centrestage. He finally completed his 5,000 IPL runs and became only the second player after Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina to achieve this feat and also became the first player to get to 5,000 runs while playing for a single franchise. Kohli stitched in a 49 run partnership with AB de Villiers as he scored a 32-ball 46 at a strike rate of 143.75 before he was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah.
One of World Cricket's biggest entertainer AB de Villiers completed his 4,000 IPL runs. The former South African explosive batsman was hitting the Mumbai bowlers to all parts of the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He played a splendid knock of a 41 ball- unbeaten 70 at a strike rate of 170.73. His knock included four boundaries and six sixes.
