Twitterati express their disappointment at Kumar Dharmasena officiating the World Cup final following his controversial decision against Jason Roy

Hosts England have made it to the World Cup final for the first time since 1992 after an eight-wicket win over Australia at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday. They will now be locking horns against New Zealand at the 'Mecca of Cricket' Lord's on Sunday where one of the teams will win their maiden world title. 

While English players gear up to play the biggest match of their lives, the fans do not seem to be in a good mood. Any guesses for this? Well, the reason behind this is that Kumar Dharmasena has been named as the on-field umpire for the summit clash. In case if you are wondering why the fans are upset that the former Sri Lankan spinner will be officiating the final then here's what you need to know.

During England's semi-final triumph over their arch-rivals,  Jason Roy attempted a pull shot off Pat Cummins in the 20th over of their run chase.  Alex Carey took a good catch to his left and the Aussies appealed confidently. Dharmasena, who was the on-field umpire took some time but eventually raised his finger as Jason Roy was left shell-shocked.

The South African born cricketer was even seen arguing with the 1996 World Cup winner. The replays showed that Roy was indeed right as there was no spike on the Ultra Edge. But, since England had no review left, Roy had to walk back for a blistering 65-ball 85 as he fell short of a well-deserved ton. To add to the opening batsman's woes, he was also fined 30 percent of his match fee for showing dissent at the umpire's decision. 

International Cricket Council (ICC) had also posted a video of Roy's controversial dismissal.
