Following a jaw-dropping KO at UFC 287 over his biggest rival, Alex Pereira, it was time for the Last Stylebender to initiate his second run as the Middleweight king. He was up against Sean Strickland. In the co-main, Tai Tuivasa had the daunting challenge of fending off the towering figure in the name of Alexander Volkov. What happened in the co-main and main event?
In the co-main, the heavyweights Tai Tuivasa and Alexander Volkov squared off. From the onset, the 6 ft. 7, mountain of a man, pounced his authority over the heavyweight in front of him, and continued to land clean strikes over the heavyweight in front of him. Tuivasa showcased his endurance and tenacity but eventually had to give in the second round following an Ezekiel choke by Volkov.
In the main event, both Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya started at a cautious note however, Strickland made the roof blow by almost pulling off a KO/TKO victory over Adesanya in the first round. Strickland kept patience and kept landing heavy rights to ultimately win the match and become the new UFC Middleweight champion
