Umesh Yadav has had a memorable Test match so far. He had played an enterprising cameo with the bat on Sunday as he scored a 10-ball 31 which included five sixes and ended up shattering a few records. Yadav also made a tremendous impact with the ball as he dismissed a few South African batsmen with his unplayable deliveries. He finished with figures of 3/40 at an economy rate of 4.44 including a maiden. Meanwhile, the Vidharbha Express had stood out on the field as well.

Yadav hits the bull's eye to send back Rabada

After Umesh Yadav had showcased his skills with both bat and ball, he grabbed the spotlight as a fielder as well during South Africa's first innings on Monday. It happened during the 38th over bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin. On the penultimate delivery of that over, Kagiso Rabada drove the ball to mid-off as Umesh Yadav attempted to stop the ball and ended up misfielding it. Sensing an opportunity, Rabada decides to steal a run but the move backfires as Yadav made a quick recovery, collected the ball and threw it at the bowler's end as it hit the bull's eye and Rabada was well short of his ground. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar who was commentating at that time went on to say that one should never run on a misfield. The video of Umesh Yadav's rocket throw to effect a run out was posted on social media. Watch the video here.

Umesh Yadav became the first Indian fast bowler to pick 3+ wickets in five successive innings at home. His bowling figures in the last five innings are as follows: 6/88, 4/45, 3/37, 3/22 and 3/40 (in the ongoing match) respectively.

South Africa sink into further trouble

After the visitors were bowled out for 162, Indian skipper Virat Kohli enforced the follow-on as they trailed by over 320 runs. However, their second innings got off to a horrendous start as the Proteas were reduced to 22/4. Things only got worse for South Africa as Dean Elgar had to retire hurt after he was struck on the side of his head by a lethal delivery from Umesh Yadav. Dean Elgar had taken his eyes off the ball for a fraction of a second and was immediately floored by the delivery. As the innings resumed after tea, it has been learned that Dean Elgar has retired hurt and George Linde will be out to replace him as a concussion substitute.
