India captain Rohit Sharma got a reprieve early on in the first session of Day 2 of the first Test, thanks to an umpire's call. It has to be said that Rohit was saved by the thinnest of margins. It was a length delivery pitching on middle, it angled in and nipped away sharply. Rohit was rooted to his crease and then he closed the face of the bat looking to clip it into the leg-side. He was beaten on the outside edge as the ball hit the back leg just above the knee-roll. Matt Henry was the bowler and he was convinced when the ball rapped Rohit on his pads. Rohit would believe that he has been lucky and now he would like to cash-in on this let-off and make NZ pay.

Meanwhile, India won the toss and opted to bat first at M. Chinnaswamy.

‘Gill misses out, Sarfaraz comes in’

"We assess where we are decide what needs to be done as a team. We have played well in the last few Test matches. Fresh series for us and we want to start well. From the last Test two changes, Gill misses out, Sarfaraz comes in. Kuldeep comes in for Akash," Rohit said at the toss after winning it and opting to bat first.

"It has been under the covers and we do understand that it could be slightly sticky early on but the nature of the pitch is such that you would want to put runs on the board first. You want to get the result as much as we want," the Indian captain added.
