The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 was co-hosted in the United States and West Indies to bring the wave of Cricket towards the US sports enthusiasts and the respective cricket-watching diaspora. A lot of effort was made to feature cricket matches in the US, be it building the Nassau County Stadium from scratch or catering the US fans with the taste of cricket. But it looks like the US leg of matches reportedly caused a stir in the International Cricket Council (ICC) as money was being splurged out and the over-expense caused unrest among the council.

ICC Looks to Probe Over the Over-Splurge of Cash in US Leg of T20 World Cup Matches | Reports

The ICC has been in unrest as a lot of cash was spent throughout the matches in the US. The expenditure has been massive, and it cost more than what West Indies had spent. Some of the ICC officials have already begun tendering their resignations before the meeting in Sri Lanka, and the International Cricket Council is expected to conduct a probe into the matter. Moreover, the ICC's belief that the costs would be met by ticket sales was severely misguided.

“Mr Khimji wrote a letter to all the members and highlighted the conduct and expenses during the USA leg of the T20 World Cup. A lot of action around this was expected during the ICC meeting in Sri Lanka later this month but the resignations have already started coming in.

“Money was being spent left, right and centre without any vision. They were spending thousands of dollars on activations at a single site and failed to attract encouraging responses. There was no planning whatsoever. Few individuals chose to spend money the way they wished to,” a senior USA Cricket official said to CricNext.

The International Cricket Council would not take the situation lightly as a lot of cash flowed out when the T20M World Cup took place in the United States. the Council must be in an unrest at the moment and they will look to take strict actions after the audit is conducted.
