Nathan Lyon is in action for Australia's Perth Test against Pakistan, ahead of which the off-spinner discussed about his retirement plans and what he hopes to accomplish before his illustrious Test career comes to an end.

Nathan Lyon talks about his retirement plans

Lyon, who is 36 years old, stated that he wants to continue playing cricket for Australia until he wins a Test series in England or India. He indicated his intention to play international cricket in a conversation with Cricket Australia, possibly up to Australia's next Ashes tour to England in 2027. 

"I'm not putting a number on it," he said when asked if he was targeting Warne's record as Australia's greatest-ever Test bowler. I want to play cricket for as long as I can," Nathan Lyon mentioned.

Lyon stated that he has complete confidence in his level of fitness and that he has no intention of tying his remaining career goals to a deadline or an estimated wicket total. Before ending his remarkable Test career, Lyon is eager to win the Test series in England and India. 

"I haven't won a Test series in India, haven't won in England - those are two places that I want to do, so with the injury happening a couple of months ago, I feel like there's a passion there to keep going and keep trying to get better. I've had the mentality to try and rehab this like no-one's rehabbed a calf injury before," Lyon said.

Lyon all set to reach 500 wickets milestone 

Nathan Lyon, Australia's great off-spinner, revealed his retirement plans. Lyon has returned to the Test side following an injury layoff was welcomed by Australia  for a two-match Test series against Pakistan which began on Thursday, December 14. The seasoned off-spinner is about to accomplish a remarkable feat: 500 Test wickets. Lyon has already claimed 496 wickets and is just four wickets away from becoming a member of the exclusive group of bowlers on the list. In addition to being Australia's go-to man in red-ball cricket, Lyon is also their most productive off-spinner in Test cricket.

Lyon's home ground, Perth, is hosting the first Test match and reaching the milestone in front of his home supporters would undoubtedly heighten the thrill. Lyon, is poised to become the eighth bowler to reach 500 Test wickets. and fourth spinner after Muttiah Murlitharan, Shane Warne, and Anil Kumble to join the elite club.
